Description
This award-winning regional library system is seeking an experienced and community-focused Librarian with strong leadership skills for the position of Branch Manager.

Headquartered in historic Fredericksburg, VA, midway between Washington, DC, and Richmond, VA, the CRRL serves over 300,000 residents in four jurisdictions through the Headquarters Library and seven branches. The library enjoys strong community support, with annual circulation over ten million, an annual budget over 12 million dollars, and a dedicated and forward-looking staff of 300 people. Fredericksburg and the surrounding area are home to an active arts community; the University of Mary Washington; plentiful outdoor recreation opportunities; and a rich local history.

The England Run Branch opened in 2010, and was carefully designed and constructed following LEED specifications. Walls of windows let in plenty of natural light as well as spectacular views. Throughout the main floor of the branch are reading nooks, which help to create an intimate, home-like feeling within the large and open space. One unique feature is the Living Room, where patrons can curl up with a book on comfortable, casual seating in front of a remarkable stone fireplace.

The England Run Branch includes public-access computers throughout the building, a MakerLab, four quiet study rooms, five meeting rooms, and a 180-seat theater. It houses a collection of 75,000 items and provides regularly scheduled programs for all ages.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
This position is the primary leadership position and administrative representative within the branch, and is responsible for all branch operations. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Develop, coordinate, organize, and manage the daily service and operations of the branch. Provide monthly report including an analysis of branch statistics, and class and event attendance to the Director and Deputy Director.
2. Develop, lead and mentor a team of approximately fifty staff members that is engaged and focused on providing the highest standards of customer service, implementing the library’s mission and achieving organizational goals. Directly supervise, mentor and evaluate Department Heads, Security, Meeting Room Managers and other support staff.
3. Responsible for assessing the building on a daily basis, including equipment and furniture, and arranging for necessary maintenance to assure aesthetics of facility and safety of customers and staff. Resolve or report maintenance problems as soon as possible after they occur.
4. Assure communication and compliance of CRRL policies, procedures, objectives and resources by both staff and public. Work to resolve customer, security and staff issues while maintaining communication with Human Resources and Deputy Director as appropriate.
5. Initiate, develop and maintain cooperative and productive relationships and partnerships with the local Friends of the Library chapter, as well as community and neighborhood groups, and the general public within their branch service area. Represent the library in community organizations and at meetings upon request.
6. Work closely with Deputy Director and fellow branch managers to develop procedures and related goals and objectives to be implemented system-wide.
7. Work with Department Heads to supervise seven full-time and 40 part-time staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• MLS degree from an ALA-accredited college or university.
• At least five years professional experience, including at least three years of supervisory experience.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and management skills, and leadership.
• Knowledge of library management and organization, project planning and implementation, and service delivery.
• Experience in managing multiple priorities, meeting ongoing deadlines and leadership.
• Ability to articulate, advocate for, and implement CRRL policies and procedures, mission and vision ‘
• Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain cooperative and productive relationships with community groups, staff, and the general public.

SALARY: Hiring starts at $52,150; salary may include a step increase that incorporates library experience. This is a 40-hour position with full medical, dental, and vision, life insurance, membership in the Virginia Retirement System, optional 457 retirement plan, vacation and sick leave for a total compensation package valued at $77,000.
